In this lesson, we’ll cover some advanced tips and tricks for using ChatGPT effectively: how to use different language models for various purposes, choose the appropriate settings for your writing task, and evaluate the quality of the output.

Language models available in ChatGPT

GPT-3 models have been designed mainly for use with the text completion endpoint. OpenAI offers tailored models for other endpoints depending on your specific needs.

For fine-tuning endpoints, you have older versions of our GPT-3 models, such as DaVinci, Curie, Babbage, and Ada. Each model has strengths and weaknesses that make it more suitable for specific tasks.

  • DaVinci is the most capable model that can perform any task that the other models can perform, with less instruction. It’s ideal for tasks that require a deeper understanding of content, such as summarization for a specific audience and creative content generation. DaVinci is proficient in solving complex intent and can understand characters’ motives. It, however, consumes more computing resources and is slower than the other models.
  • Curie is highly powerful and incredibly fast. While it’s not as strong as Davinci in analyzing complicated text, it’s proficient in handling many nuanced tasks such as sentiment classification, language translation, summarization, and performing Q&A as a general service chatbot.
  • Babbage is designed to handle more straightforward tasks such as simple classification, while it’s also quite capable of semantic search classification, ranking how well documents match up with search queries.
  • Ada is typically the fastest model of the four, and it’s proficient in handling tasks such as parsing text, address…
